Dear Jude: Sparkly Awesomeness

Dear Jude, you’re the kind of awesomeness that makes any day sparkle. I love watching your joyful escapes to the yard whenever the door is cracked;the way you dance to any and all music, even when you’re about to fall asleep, little legs kicking in time; your unfailing fascination with the wrapping of your gifts more than the gifts themselves; how you give the juiciest bear hugs ever, tiny arms and all; that you’re learning how to share; that you’re so independent but still my snuggle-pie and that your weird little ‘happy dance’ instantly makes everyone around you laugh. 2012 is going to be such another fun year!

God is more than “Church”

I think the church vs state, God vs autonomy, etc arguments aren’t helped by the fact that for many, Churches=God. Our human failings can make God seem confused, vindictive, oppressive & more. But God is more than “Churches” & higher than all our weak expressions/ideas of Him. I pray He be revealed in a real way to all. Even/especially us Christians. The better we know Him, the better we reflect Him and His heart.

Dear Jude: Daycare Day 1

Dear Jude, on this your first day of daycare (which feels awfully like ‘school’ to me) I have no pictures to post as they would all be of your head back, as you trotted off to your classroom and to this moment, have not even glanced back. How proud I am! Still, I’ve already called your granny and apologized for doing that to her when I was your age. I get it now, Mom. I get it. So proud. So wounded. Such an emotional tug of war here.

What Makes a Marriage

Marriage is more than “I do”. It’s also “I will”. And somewhere between the doing today and the improvements tomorrow, the wedding becomes a marriage becomes a life that fulfills God’s plans. Just keep doing, keep trying, keep fighting, keep going.

Dear Jude: Regarding style

Dear Jude, who knows what you kids will be wearing in a few years, but here are a few fundamentals from your mama: 1. Clothes must be CLEAN. Not ‘look’ clean or  ‘smell’ clean. BE clean. Uncrushed too.  2. They must cover what needs to be covered as appropriate to time and place. (work: arms and legs, dates:  arms and legs, etc)  and finally 3. They must fit well. Just because a garment ‘closes’ does NOT mean it ‘fits’. In the same vein just because it covers, does not mean it fits. No matter what “fashion” is doing, a good fit is ALWAYS in style, darling. Fashion is for now. Style is forever. Write that down.
